Uploading through FileZilla (FTP)

Uploading through FileZilla

 

FileZilla is an open source FTP program available for PC and Mac.  You can use it to upload and download files for your website.  Below are the steps on how to use it/

 

Note: FilaZilla tends to disconnect from the server if you are idle.  You may need to check the connection window to determine if you are connected.

 

1. Open FileZilla
2. Go to File > Site Manager
3. Press New Site
4. Enter a website name of "yourdomain.com"
5. Under the General Tab, enter the following settings:

    Host: yourdomain.com
    Port: 21
    Protocol: FTP - File Transfer Protocol
    Encryption: Use Plain FTP
    Login Type: Normal
    User: (enter your username - see welcome email)
    Password: (enter your password - see welcome email)

6. Under the Advanced Tab, enter the following settings:

    Default Local Directory: (Press 'Browse' and select a folder on your computer where your website files will be stored.)
    Default Remote Directory: httpdocs
7. Under the Transfer Settings tab, enter the following settings:

    Transfer Mode: Passive

8. Press OK
9. Go to File > Site Manager
10. Press Connect

Once it connects, you should see some files in the lower right-hand window. 

 

TO DOWNLOAD:
In the lower right-hand window, select a file you with to download (or select a file and press CTRL+A to highlight all the files), right-click on a file and select "Download".

Note: Sometimes the connection can disconnect.  It will tell you in top window.  If it does disconnect, just go back up to File > Site Manager and press Connect.

 

To UPLOAD:
In the lower left-hand window, select a file you with to upload (or select a file and press CTRL+A to highlight all the files), right-click on a file and select "Upload".

Note: Again, sometimes the connection can disconnect.  It will tell you in top window.  If it does disconnect, just go back up to File > Site Manager and press Connect.
